Flow Mountain Bike Adventures are looking to hire more Mountain Bike Coaches and Mountain Bike Guides (for their Mountain Bike Guided Rides Club, Moutain Bike Guided Holidays in Western Canada (the Yukon, the Canadian Rockies, and Squamish/Whistler), and Mountain Bikepacking Trips (in the Canadian Rockies) for the 2023 season. Mountain Bike Coaches
We are looking to hire coaches with their PMBIA Level 1, 2 or higher certification and previous experience with mountain bike coaching, but we are willing to train the right candidates. This is a great part-time gig for those who are looking to share their passion for mountain biking with others.
Requirements of the position:
- PMBIA Level 1, 2 or higher certification.
- 40 HR Wilderness First Aid or higher medical training, with preference given to those who with their 80 HR course.
- Intermediate, Advanced to Expert Mountain Biking ability.
- Good base level of fitness.
- Willingness to work on weeknights, weekends and holidays.
- Confident talking in front of groups, and comfortable providing feedback to clients on their riding skills. Good communication skills are a must.
- Ability to be supportive and encouraging to individuals as they progress their mountain biking skills.
- Ability to stay calm and collected in the face of a medical emergency, or encountering wildlife while in the backcountry.
- Strong knowledge and experience riding trails in Calgary, Bragg Creek, Canmore and Kananaskis.
- Basic bike maintenance skills in order help riders during lessons, and teach participants a bit about their bikes and how to take care of them.
Flow Mountain Bike Adventures provides staff training at the beginning of the season, with opportunities to shadow and be mentored by more senior instructors in order to develop their own coaching skills. We will also be providing training to staff during the season so they can further refine and develop their own skills, and support those who are working towards higher PMBIA certification. There’s also opportunity to take on private coaching and guiding opportunities.

Mountain Bike Guides for Flow’s Guided Ride Clubs
Flow are looking to hire more guides for our Guided Ride Clubs. This is a super fun position where you get to help club members further progress their skills by building their volume of riding. Guides also help to support riders to progress their skills by sessioning features and having those who need a confidence boost follow them into features. Flow have Guided Ride Clubs for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced riders. These take place over the course of 8 weeks on a weeknight, starting at the end of May/early June until July, and at the end of July/early August into September.
Requirements of the position:
- 40 HR Wilderness First Aid or higher medical training, with preference for the 80 HR course.
- Intermediate, Advanced to Expert Mountain Biking Skills.
- Extensive knowledge and experience riding mountain bike trails in Calgary, Bragg Creek, Kananaskis and Canmore.
- Good communicator, with the ability to support and encourage riders to progress their skills in a group setting.
- Ability to stay calm, cool and collected in the face of a medical or other emergency situation.
- Basic trail side bike maintenance skills including ability to help participants change a tire (either with tubes or tubeless set-up), fix a broken chain, and help problem solve shifting issues.
- Decent base level of fitness and stamina in order to lead rides from 2 to 3 1/2 hrs in length.

Mountain Bikepacking Guides
Flow are currently hiring Bikepacking Guides for 2 to 5 day trips within the Canadian Rockies (in Kananaskis Country between Canmore and Bragg Creek). These trips primarily take place on singletrack trail, and are geared towards Strong Beginner to Advanced Mountain Bikers. Almost all of our trips are van supported, save for our Weekend Introduction to Mountain Bikepacking Adventures. These are fully catered and guided adventures.
Requirements of the Position:
- 80 Hr Wilderness First Aid or higher medical training, with experience responding to medical emergencies within a backcountry environment including extracting individuals to appropriate areas in the event a helicopter rescue is required.
- Experience using InReach devices and sattelite phones in order to coordinate rescues within a backcountry setting.
- Navigation skills with the ability to read and interpret topographic maps, use a compass, as well as familiarity and experience using GPS devices.
- Strong knowledge and experience riding single and double track trails within Bragg Creek, Kananaskis and Canmore, Alberta, Canada.
- Ability to stay calm and remain level headed while responding to a medical emergency, wildlife encounter, or similar situation within a backcountry setting, with the ability to keep the group calm.
- Experience cooking meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) for groups of up to 12 people in a backcountry setting, with the ability to prepare appetizers in a timely manner to a group of hungry bikepackers who are tired after finishing a day of riding!
- Strong communication skills in order to manage groups of up to 10 people (Flow operate Bikepacking trips with a 5 to 1 Client to Guide ratio).
- Bike maintenance skills, with the ability to help participants change a tire, fix a broken chain, and deal with things like broken derailleurs, shifting and brake issues within a backcountry setting.
- Experience as a Bikepacking or Mountain Bike Guiding preferred.
- Preference given to those who have ACMG certification in a related discipline (Hiking, Skiing, Rock or Alpine Guiding).
- Preference given to those who speak a second language such as French or German.

Requirements of the Position:
- Advanced to expert mountain biking ability on singletrack trails within Western Canada.
- 80 Hr Wilderness First Aid or higher medical training, with experience responding to medical emergencies within a backcountry environment including extracting individuals to appropriate areas in the event a helicopter rescue is required.
- Experience using InReach devices and sattelite phones in order to coordinate rescues within a backcountry setting.
- Navigation skills with the ability to read and interpret topographic maps, use a compass, as well as familiarity and experience using GPS devices.
- Strong knowledge and experience riding single and double track trails within Bragg Creek, Kananaskis, Canmore, and Crowsnest Pass in the Canadian Rockies, knowledge and experience riding the trails in Carcross and Whitehorse in the Yukon, and knowledge and experience riding singletrack trails in Squamish and Whistler, British Columbia, Canada.
- Ability to stay calm and remain level headed while responding to a medical emergency, wildlife encounter, or similar situation within a backcountry setting, with the ability to keep the group calm.
- Strong communication skills in order to manage groups of up to 12 people (Flow operate Mountain Bike Guided Holidays with a 6 to 1 Client to Guide ratio).
